“At Newsweek, Lisa Miller writes, ‘The Christian right is now poised to become a women’s movement — and Sarah Palin is its earthy Jerry Falwell.’

“That’s a major prediction, and not one that is suggested either by the past or the present. In some ways, the Christian right has always been a movement about women — about what their role is in the family, in the church, and in the culture. That doesn’t make it a women’s movement, and that doesn’t make Palin its leader. The movement’s original sin, if you will, is that it is entirely predicated on the idea that America is a Christian nation and must be guided by biblical principles. And those biblical principles, as defined by the Christian right, preclude things like women’s free agency — choosing when and if to have children, choosing to enter ministry, choosing not to submit to her husband’s spiritual authority, or choosing not to get married and have children at all.”

— Sarah Posner, author and associate editor at Religion Dispatches,
from Is Sarah Palin The New Leader Of The Christian Right?

Here’s a thought: You know those hideous (so-called) ‘truth trucks‘ with the oversized, anti-gay and anti-choice graphics that the freakier elements of the extreme religious reich like to drive around and around and around — wasting fossil fuel, I might add? We needs to get us an entire fleet of those effen trucks plastered with these photos and follow those drill-baby-drill types — like Sarah the Idiot and her über-unctuous, über-rich oil exec pals — everywhere they go.

scienceblogs.com
While the parties responsible struggle to shift the blame, the Gulf oil spill has reached the shore, as this tragically long photo essay shows. There is a cost to these risky ventures in offshore drilling, and they are not adequately paid by the companies doing the dirty work.

As PZ Myers suggests: “Those who would profit need to pay the price. There are clearly at least three companies that shouldn’t be arguing … they should be coughing up the cash, and recognizing that their businesses will have to be slightly less profitable.”

Would tossing Sarah ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’ Palin into a volcano appease the oil spill gods? I wouldn’t know for sure, but here’s a plan:

Step 1: We trick Palin into getting on a jet headed for Iceland – we’ll tell her it’s a six-figure speaking engagement and let greed take its course. Shouldn’t actually be too difficult. Palin’s nearly as dumb as Carrie ‘Box of Rocks’ Prejean.

Step 2: We let Iceland in on the deal. They can sell tickets to ‘Sarah Palin Toss 2010′ and that should bolster the Icelandic economy. Besides, isn’t the Prime Minister of Iceland a gay-married lesbian? We all know where Palin stands on marriage equality and her alleged gay friends.

Step 3: Toss, baby, toss!

Gulf Stream May Send Oil Spill Up East Coast
www.huffingtonpost.com
VENICE, La. — A sense of doom settled over the American coastline from Louisiana to Florida on Saturday as a massive oil slick spewing from a ruptured well kept growing, and experts warned that an uncontrolled gusher could create a nightmare scenario if the Gulf Stream carries it toward the Atlantic.

President Barack Obama planned to visit the region Sunday to assess the situation amid growing criticism that the government and oil company BP PLC should have done more to stave off the disaster. Meanwhile, efforts to stem the flow and remove oil from the surface by skimming it, burning it or spiking it with chemicals to disperse it continued with little success.

Louisiana’s Republican Governor Bobby ‘Monster Mash’ Jindal is confident that BP will pay for the cleanup. I’m wondering if that will include replacing all the wildlife (http://huff.to/palinkills), their habitats, and taking care of the families of folks who make a living fishing and shrimping along the Gulf Coast?

At this point, drill, baby, drill should only be used to refer to lobotomies for you effed-up, anti-nature Republicans and your Christian right pom-pom girls. So, regulate, baby, regulate!

Who is running Sarah Palin? God is!

She tells an evangelical group, quote, “That is where god wants us to be. Lest anyone try to convince you that God should be separated from the state, our Founding Fathers, they were believers.” That‘s probably why separation of church of state was Jefferson‘s idea and why they put, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” in the Bill of Rights.

How‘s that holier than thouy proselytizy thing working out for you?

Apparently Canada’s death panels were kind to the reigning queen of American tea-baggers. Young Sarah Palin and her family, according to a report from the Huffington Post, used to slip across the border to take advantage of that single-payer healthcare action in Canada:

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — who has gone to great lengths to hype the supposed dangers of a big government takeover of American health care — admitted over the weekend that she used to get her treatment in Canada’s single-payer system.

“We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada,” Palin said in her first Canadian appearance since stepping down as governor of Alaska. “And I think now, isn’t that ironic?”

Look up “irony” in the dictionary you stupid con. It comes after “idiot.”

The Washington Post has more:

“My first five years of life we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right there by Whitehorse. Believe it or not — this was in the ’60s — we used to hustle on over the border for health care that we would receive in Whitehorse. I remember my brother, he burned his ankle in some little kid accident thing and my parents had to put him on a train and rush him over to Whitehorse and I think, isn’t that kind of ironic now. Zooming over the border, getting health care from Canada,” Palin said a speech Saturday night, according to the Calgary Herald.

Palin spoke before a paying audience of 1,200 in Calgary, with tickets costing between $150 and $200, the Medicine Hat News of Medicine Hat, Alberta, reported.

Skagway? I’m not touching it.
