The Quotable Roseanne Barr

“[marie osmonds poor gay son killed himself] because he had been told how wrong and how sick he was every day of his life by his church and the people in it. Calling that “depression” is a lie!

“Yet the Osmonds still talk lovingly about their church, saying nothing about its extremely anti-gay Crusade. Marie also has a gay daughter! Hey, I want her and all the gay kids in the world to know that they are just fine being gay and that they deserve love and respect instead of insults and rebuke! I have gay people in my family and my circle of friends and I am kicking bigot ass and taking names!

“That is how its done in my religion—(I have my own religion that I made up for myself and it is a great religion that actually works and respects facts and not fantasy!)

“Gerald Lund one of the ex church apostles has three gay kids himself.

“Yet, even though the people they say they love the most in all of their public displays and speeches (THEIR KIDS AND FAMILY!!) are gay,– their own children, for crying out loud- these people cannot find the christian decency and compassion within themselves to stop their hypocritical gay bashing!!

“How sickening. I know so many mormon kids who were gay and committed suicide, and I just cannot and will not stay quiet in order to not offend bigots anymore. It is all so terribly depressing.”

Truth Wins Out fundraiser tonight

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Come out tonight and meet and greet Wayne Besen.

Besen is the Founder of Truth Wins Out, a non-profit organization that defends the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community against anti-gay misinformation, counters the so-called “ex-gay” industry and educates America about the lives of LGBT people. Besen is also the author of Anything But Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth and Bashing Back: Wayne Besen on GLBT People, Politics, and Culture. In 2006, Besen was named one of the Advocate Magazine’s “People of the Year” for his work with TWO.

While in San Diego, Besen will be also speaking on Saturday at Just Love, a day-long conference on the menace of the so called ‘ex-gay’ movement. Demonstrations at the site of the concurrent ‘ex-gay’ conference, Love Won Out, are planned.

Bryan H. Wildenthal and Ashish Agrawal are hosting the event that will feature both Wayne Besen and a very special guest, the best-selling author, Patricia Nell Warren, whose book The Front Runner is a landmark in LGBT lit.

Cocktails and food will be served. (Catered by Judy Forman’s Big Kitchen, 3003 Grape St. in Golden Hill). For additional information, click here.

Getting to Garlow’s to greet the ‘ex-gays’

Friday, March 5th, 2010

How many thousands of San Diego’s taxpayer’s dollars will the paranoid pastor squander on security this time? (graphic: We Don’t Buy the “Ex-Gay” Lie!)

Here’s a handy-dandy-how-to-get-to Jim Garlow’s ‘Mighty Fortress for the Lord, Inc.‘ for those interested in protesting the unfabulous ‘ex-gay’s’ Love Won Out prey-away-the-gay-fest this coming Saturday.

Here’s the skinny from the protest’s organizers.

Pastor Jim Garlow is hosting a major anti-gay event on March 6th at his Rancho San Diego Skyline mega-church. Garlow is widely understood to have driven the Prop 8 campaign locally, and promotes the idea that homosexuality is a ’sin’ and that a person can be cured by embracing-his-doctrine of Christianity. The ‘Ex-Gay Ministry’ parades around a tiny handful of speakers who claim to have been ‘cured,’ but it is widely known that people who undergo these browbeatings more often than not end up feeling more depressed, more conflicted, and more self-hating. It’s time to call it like it is: Jim Garlow is a promoter of homophobia, not families or safe, happy living, or whatever else he uses as cover.

Details for both demonstrations:

Date: Saturday, March 6, 2010

First Rally: 7:00am – 8:30 am (to greet them as they arrive)
Second Rally: 1pm – 2:30 pm (these times allow for you to attend one or both AND the shadow conference)

Location: Near Skyline Wesleyan Church
Street: 11330 Campo Rd
City: La Mesa, CA
Map & Directions

Here’s all you need to know about Jim Garlow:

The pastor of Skyline Church is no stranger to LGBT Californians, nor to our families, friends and allies. Pastor Jim Garlow claimed responsibility for jump-starting Prop 8, the California ballot initiative that took away the existing right of LGBT couples to marry; was the driving force behind the pre-2008-Election, anti-gay rally, TheCall, at Qualcomm Stadium; traveled to DC to oppose The Matthew Shepard & James Byrd Jr Hate Crimes Prevention Act; was one of the original signatories of the blueprint for American theocracy called The Manhattan Declaration; and, most recently, tried (unsuccessfully) to worm out of testifying in the Perry v Schwarzenegger Prop 8 trial.

And, this so-called “Christian” actually flew in to take part in a 90-minute televised prey-away-the-healthcare-reform prayercast sponsored by Tony Perkins‘ gay-hating Family Research Council and featuring Garlow’s buddy, Shaky Lou Engle. Be sure to scroll down and check out the video evidence of Pastor Jim Garlow explaining how providing access to healthcare for uninsured and underinsured Americans violates the Ten Commandments.

No. I’m not kidding.

Bigot Harry Jackson bleats on CBN

Bigot Harry Jackson bleats (video: CBNonline at YouTube)

At the 2:00 mark, CBN gives Bigot Harry Jackson a bully pulpit to spew about getting his ass kicked over marriage equality in Washington DC, a city in which the carpet-bagging, blood-letting-threatening, NOM associating Jackson does not reside. Jackson then more than adequately demonstrates why he is the radical religious reich’s go-to person of color when he insinuates that only a “small minority” of “wavering” blacks are willing to accept marriage equality for LGBT Americans.

Anti-gays FAIL to stop equality in DC

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Carpetbagger and NOM-associate Bigot Harry Jackson has failed in his pathetic last ditch effort to get his gay-hatin’ hands on one of them activist judges in order to avert marriage equality in Washington DC.

From the Washington Post:

A group led by Bishop Harry Jackson, pastor of Hope Christian Church in Beltsville, has wanted to stop the law from going into effect, but the effort has been stymied by decisions in lower courts. The group has also been unsuccessful in its attempt to repeal the D.C. Council’s decision on same-sex marriages through the ballot initiative process. It wants to propose a law establishing that marriage is between a man and woman.

For the geographically-challenged, Beltsville is in Maryland and not in the District of Columbia.

Jackson, who threatened bloodletting if marriage equality became legal in DC, and his pathetic posse of anti-gays have been insisting that the population of DC be allowed to circumvent legal procedure (AKA: representative democracy) and vote on the fundamental civil rights of a minority within the district — a clear violation of the DC Human Rights Act.

Although the D.C. Charter provides for referendums, the group has been blocked because the D.C. Council disallowed any referendum on an issue that would violate the D.C. Human Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination.

The Bush-appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, denied Bigot Jackson’s stay request.

Consequently, same-sex couples began applying for marriage licenses today in the nation’s capitol.
