The Kirk Cameron Action Kit (video: Funny or Die)

Fundie Funny or Die has this treasure up in response to the news that former Hollywood brat turned preacher, Kirk Cameron, has declared jihad on Charles Darwin … and us non-believers. Cameron told People magazine, “Atheism has been on the rise for years now, and the Bible of the atheists is The Origin of Species. We have a situation in our country where young people are entering college with a belief in God and exiting with that faith being stripped and shredded. What we want to do is have student make an informed, educated decision before they chuck their faith.” Here’s their cunning plan:

He and other creationists have created thousands of editions of Charles Darwin’s landmark work explaining evolutionary theory, with a 50-page introduction that picks apart aspects of Darwin’s work and try to link it to everything from Nazi eugenics to the scientist’s alleged “disdain for women.”

[ ... ]

On Nov. 19, three days before the 150th anniversary of the original publication of Origin of Species, Cameron and other religious activists will distribute their books at “the top 50″ universities around the country.

Somebody call campus security!

The video’s producers say:

In November 2009 Kirk Cameron will be distributing altered copies of Charles Darwin’s “Origin of Species” with his own preface that tries to make Darwin look like an evil crazy old man who helped the nazis take over Poland, and loved monkeys in a strange, special way. Okay, we actually don’t know what is in his preface, but either way, we thought we would help Kirk Cameron and his very timely, important quest. We’ve made the “Kirk Cameron Action Kit”. Inside you will find everything you need to fight those evil darwinists!! Just watch as Kirk Cameron’s colleague Dick Tooley, leads you through the many benefits of the Kirk Cameron action kit! WOW!!!

Biblical plague hits San Diego … yum!

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Hillcrest’s Savonarola (and you know exactly who I mean) is bound to see this as divine retribution for the City Council having boldly declared the month of July Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Month in sunny, formerly-conservative San Diego:

A plague of biblical proportions? Nonsense sez I.

It’s time to bread out the bread-crumbs, parsley, and olive oil.

3 tbs olive oil (not necessarily the good stuff)
5 garlic cloves minced
2 lbs fresh squid
1 cup of reasonably-drinkable white wine
Several sprigs of fresh thyme, dried if you must
Salt and pepper
Chopped flat leaf parsley to garnish

  1. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to a decent-sized skillet on medium high. Saute the garlic for 3 to 5 minutes until just ever so lightly browned. Toss in the squid, lower the heat, add the wine, toss in the thyme, and cover.
  2. Simmer at a low temp for approximately 45 minutes — long enough to kill the rest of that bottle of wine and open another. Uncover and adjust the seasoning. Raise the heat and cook off most of the liquid — 5 to 10 minutes (or just enough time for another glass of wine). Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Garnish with parsley and enjoy.
