Shenandoah Baptist Church’s Pastor Jeff Owens: Burn and shoot fags!

[ updated: see below ]
According to Pastor Jeff Owens‘ own website:
Pastor Owens is ‘a soulwinner, fervent preacher, and takes an uncompromising stand against sin; but the hallmark quality of Dr. Owens is his genuine love and concern for people.’
Pastor Owens is a genuine pastor, who loves the Lord, loves his people, and reaches out to the local community with the Word of God and compassion. Thousands of lost sinners have come to Jesus Christ for salvation through his labors in the Lord. Thank God for Jeff Owens!
Here’s a little taste of how this genuine, people-lovin,’ out-reachin,’ Christian pastor from Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church feels about gay and lesbian human beings:
We need to stop burning flags and start burning fags! We need Hunt-A-Homo Week. We need to take ‘em all out and shoot ‘em with a scatter shotgun.
(emphasis: mine. Yeah. I know it doesn’t ‘count’ if it’s all emphasized)
I’m willing to bet we don’t hear a single word of condemnation from your basic extremist Christian right types like Porno Pete LaBarbera, Tony Perkins, Rick Warren, ‘Shakey’ Lou Engle or Jim Garlow. But you can be damn sure that if any gay or atheist blogger called for people to burn and shoot Christians … well, you get the picture.

UPDATE (22 May 2010, 5:43 pm):
It appears Christian pastor and traditional values fan, Jeff Owens, has had his share of trouble with that whole sparin’ the rod and spoilin’ the child thing, according to the Martinsburg, West Virginia Journal:
Man pleads guilty to sex charges
Jeremiah Owens, 22, will be sentenced on May 23MARTINSBURG — A 22-year-old Martinsburg man charged last year with having sex with two teenage girls in Berkeley County has agreed to a plea offer from the county prosecutor’s office.
Jeremiah Daniel Owens pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault charges from an eight-count indictment handed up in October 2007 that charged him with sexual assault and sexual abuse against two girls, ages 15 and 13, and that stemmed from separate incidents earlier that year.
Under the plea agreement, which was accepted by Circuit Judge Christopher Wilkes, the remaining six counts of the indictment will be dismissed, according to Berkeley County Assistant Prosecutor Greg K. Jones.
Jones said the potential sentence Owens could face is not less than one year and not more than five years in prison for each count. Sentencing has been set for May 23 at 9 a.m.
Under the plea agreement, Owens must also register for life as a sexual offender.

According to a previous report, the mother of the 13-year-old, whose name will not be published to protect her identity, said her daughter met Owens at the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church in Martinsburg where Owens’ father is the pastor.
Ouch! That’ll look like complete shit on a résumé.

One Comment so far. Comments are closed. You wrote, “I’m willing to bet we don’t hear a single word of condemnation from your basic extremist Christian right types. . .” I am a very conservative, self professed right wing type and here’s your word of condemnation.
FRankly, I’m troubled by the words attributed to Dr. Owens (Dr. of what? Hate?) The message of Jesus Christ is a message of love, not hate. It ‘s a message of compassion not ridicule. Its message of forgiveness not condemnation. The thing Pastor Owen seems to have forgotten is Jesus came not to bring condemnation but salvation, his words not mine.
Though the Bible clearly teaches homosexuality is a sin, it also teaches hatred and bigotry are sins as well. Further, it teaches we all stand in sin apart from Christ. ALL, not just the “fags” Dr. Owens! Yo
Dr. Owen has forgotten he has done nothing to earn his salvation it is a free gift of Christ. He has not earned the right to a “bully pulpit.” The apostle Paul wrote, “For we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” And in another place he writes, “There are NONE righteous , not even one.” Not even you. You sir, have become a pharisee and the opposite of what Christ called you to be. A pray you have repented. I will leave it at that.
I just came to your page today for the first time. I’ve never met brother Owen but Imagine he is a severely troubled individual who fights his own personal demons, perhaps even . . . homosexuality. You won’t find many who will respond to your post because many are simply too embarrassed by the shear theological idiocy of his comments. Thank you for taking the time to make us aware. By the way, you loose the bet.
Have a radical day,
Pastor Mike
