Protest against Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill
Join the San Diego Alliance for Marriage Equality on February 4th for a protest action to spread the word about the Anti-Homosexuality Bill that has been introduced in Uganda. We will meet around 4:50 pm to bullhorn and wave signs and let the people know about this horrible legislation. This event is also running in conjunction with Equality Across America’s protest of the “Family’s” ( a U.S.-led right wing group with more than 10,000 cells worldwide) National Prayer Breakfast.
The infamous C Street House is the DC residence of far right U.S. politicians who have helped author or ardently support legislative efforts to restrict the civil rights of LGBTQ people and other minorities in America and throughout the world. For example, U.S. Senator John Ensign (R-NV), Family member and C Street resident, has argued for legislation to ban states from recognizing same-sex marriage. And U.S. Representative Bart Stupak (D-MI), another Family member and C Street resident, proposed an amendment to the House’s health care bill that is nothing more than a disgusting attempt to roll back abortion rights.
Ugandan Family members and anti-gay extremists are crafting that country’s dangerous “Anti-Homosexuality Bill” promising ruthless punishments such as the death penalty or life in prison for LGBTQ and HIV-positive people. The Ugandan government has long misspent and wasted millions of dollars of U.S. funding intended for HIV/AIDS prevention and wellness services. The new bill’s chief authors are Family members James Nsaba Buturo, Uganda’s Minister of Ethics and Integrity, and Member of Parliament David Bahati, both of whom have proceeded with the encouragement of Ugandan President and Family member Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Statewide Event to Repeal Prop 8!
Are you one of 1,000?
On Saturday, February 6th, 2010 people from across the state will come together in unison to take action in repealing Proposition 8 and restoring marriage equality in California. This will be the biggest statewide event planned to gather 100,000+ signatures to repeal Proposition 8 in a single day! It’s a hefty challenge, but it’s one that we are ready to take on. If we have 1,000 volunteers and they each collect 100 signatures, we’ve met our goal. This is your chance to prove that you’re serious about equality. Every day that goes by is another day that we allow discrimination to be written into the constitution. It doesn’t matter what your sexual orientation is. It doesn’t matter what your political party affiliation is. Race doesn’t matter, and neither does gender, religion, age, etc. This is a human issue. It’s an equality issue, and equality knows no bounds.
If you haven’t been able to volunteer in the past, it’s OK. If you’re an extremely busy person and don’t have much time, that’s OK too. All we ask is that you volunteer a few hours on February 6th to help show the people in California that we are serious about equality. It’s just a few hours and it’s easy. Join us on Saturday, February 6th and bring a friend. In fact, bring lots of friends and even your family members because this is about working TOGETHER for a greater cause. We are stronger when we work together.

MEUSA-SD Canvass OUT-Reach for Equality!
Project OUT-Reach – is a campaign by Marriage Equality USA -San Diego where we are going into neighborhoods around San Diego County talking to voters, asking them how they feel about marriage equality, educating the community about what’s happening around the issue, and getting them involved in the next steps towards equality. Even by starting right now we still need to open 300,000 Californian hearts and minds by using earned media, demonstrations, public outreach and education.
To be successful we cannot just organize in areas that are supportive. We must also reach out to communities that have not traditionally been our allies in this fight to bridge the gap in understanding. We will have conversations with people, both at their doors and in busy public spaces to raise consciousness about the issue as well as funds for the cause. We will keep our community energized and engaged as activists, fighting to win back our fundamental right to marry.
