Sinclair Lewis, who penned the 1927 novel upon which the multi-award-winning film was based, didn’t miss the mark in his critique of fundamentalist itinerant preachers, self-anointed pop-pastors and wannabe messiahs with ulterior motives. Lewis also left us with the prophetic warning: “When facism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”
