The truth about ‘biblical truth’

Lately I’ve had a number of conversations with various LGBT leaders, movement activists, family members and friends about why the equality movement can’t seem to not tell the truth. Not lying is really hurting our cause. While the other side claims some fanciful moral high-ground and regards us as perverts, degenerates and sinners, we stick to telling the truth. When they attack us physically and attempt to deny us the same legal protections their side enjoys, we tell the truth. When they claim to be speaking their biblical truth as they attack us and put our rights to a vote, we continue to tell the truth.

It finally dawned on me that biblical truth, unlike real truth, is nothing more than an Orwellian construction: When they claim to be preserving the definition of traditional marriage and not eliminating or restricting the Constitutionally-guaranteed civil rights of gay citizens, they are engaging, purely and simply, in doublespeak.

It may hurt us as a movement, it will most certainly cause us to achieve full equality later rather than sooner, but, in the face of their incessant biblical malarkey, we will continue to tell the truth.
