Sick

June 9th, 2009, by Mike Tidmus

I apologize to my regular readers. I’ve been pretty sick the last couple of weeks. I’ll be back.

In the meantime, read Rex Wockner’s account of the attack on San Diego Pride’s executive director Ron deHarte.

And DO NOT FORGET the demonstration at the State building in San Diego. California’s Office of AIDS Faces $80 Million Cut Amidst Increasing Need for Service and they’re cutting people with AIDS who depend on the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). Sacramento’s response is: Let them die to save money while wiping out AIDS/HIV services in California that took 25 years to put in place. Here, from the Gay & Lesbian Times are the details:

San Diegans are mobilizing to protest the state budget cuts locally on Wednesday, June 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. in front of the State of California Office Building located at 1350 Front St. between A & Ash streets in Downtown San Diego.

Not convinced? The Terminator is also assuming the role of Conan the Kitten Killer, as Schwarzenner is overturning the mandatory six-day-hold on stray animals. Why wait? Just kill people’s pets to save a few bucks. Here, from PBS, is some more info:

Calif. Budget Could Force Shelters to Euthanize Sooner

CALIFORNIA — California animal shelters would be required to euthanize animals sooner under cuts proposed in Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s revised budget. Shelters now care for the animals for six days before they’re “put down.”

But the governor’s new budget would reduce that to three days. Jennifer Fearing is with the U.S. Humane Society. She says the savings would be nearly $25 million a year. Fearing says that’s small compared to the state’s $24 billion deficit.

“It comes at a time when we realize there are very important decisions being made at the capitol, but this is the only money in the entire state budget that goes toward the commitment that the state has made repeatedly to remedy the minimum of animals that are killed in animal shelters,” she says.

Fearing wants lawmakers to provide animal shelters with funds to step-up their promotions of animal adoptions.

I hope you get through this and you’re feeling better soon, Mike.

    What Jumpthesnark said.

Also, just to show how unbelievably absurd this whole budget situation is, the state is threatening to withhold the portion of sales taxes that goes to road maintenance… which in the case of Alameda means that all the bridges would be closed.

Howard Jarvis must be so proud.

  3. Mike Tidmus says:

Thanks, people. At least I managed to avoid a hospital stay.

Howard Jarvis should be dug up, decapitated, drawn and quartered, tarred, feathered and shoved up the asses of as many California Republicans — including Schwarzenegger — as possible.
