Strike up the Band with Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney,

Jeremy Hooper at Good As You, has a theory about the one thing we didn’t try in our efforts to preserve marriage equality in California.
We didn’t employ The Mickey and Judy Option.
The line “Hey, kids, let’s put on a show!” was the basis for a whole series of fabulous little films featuring the talents of a very young Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. Their high-spirited high-jinx and talent for song and dance never failed to raise the money to send the the orphans to summer camp or get a shot at a big time Broadway show.
Jeremy has a video clip from Keith Olbermann’s Countdown that features an interview with Marc Shaiman, the creator and composer of Prop 8, The Musical and performers Jack Black and John C Reilly. Shaiman expresses his regret that he created the enormously popular internet musical number “six weeks later than he shoulda.”
In an interview with the New York Times, Shaiman said, “We stupidly allowed ourselves to be lulled into a sense of ‘everything’s fantastic now.’” But he adds, “Everything’s changing, and this couldn’t possibly be voted into law [now].”
Jeremy concludes, “It’s the celeb-obsessed world in which we live, kiddies. If we want to win in the future, we must fight, engage, connect … and recruit Britney Spears.”
Needless to say, not everyone is wildly enthusiastic about the unprecedented success of Prop 8, the Musical. Dr Gary Cass, of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission, in the throes of a hissy fit, described the video as “a low budget musical farce that defames Christ, mocks Christians and distorts the teaching of the Bible.”
A visit to Dr Cass’ CADC website reveals that the busy amateur film critic is currently running a video campaign called 7 Reasons Why Barack Obama Is Not A Christian. You get the picture.
Says Cass, “Appearing as a sarcastic, rotund Christ, Black distorts the Bible and condones shameful, homosexual acts. Associating Christ with perverse activity is an affront to all people of faith, especially Christians. Apparently Black and company find it hilarious to falsely accuse Christians while they intentionally distort the Bible. Black ought to apologize.”
Don’t hold your breath, Doc.
