Linda Harvey slimed

Linda Harvey, of Missionary-Position America, and her homo-sex-obsessed soul mate Peter LaBarbera, of Americans for Truthiness about Homosexuality, might well end up in the unemployment line if everything they, and their Christianist comrades among the extremist religious right, fear might happen under an Obama presidency comes to pass.

Their fears include: executive opposition to any new attempt to pass the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA), the repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), probable federal recognition for civil unions and expanded adoptions rights for queer citizens, the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), hate crime legislation in the form of the Matthew Shepard Act, the elimination of Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell, and the long overdue refocusing of US tax dollars on domestic AIDS prevention and research.

Perhaps this fear of the inevitable is why both Linda Harvey and Peter LaBarbera issued ugly, hate-filled, medically-unsound screeds in  observance  celebration of World AIDS Day. Both rattle off statistics ad nauseam as they advocate the elimination of male homosexuality, and both seem to suggest that funding for AIDS needs to be eliminated if they don’t get their way. Were they to employ every single statistic in the CDC’s super computers, it wouldn’t begin to obscure their fundamentalist, anti-sex, anti-queer agenda.

The promise of the next eight years is nothing less than a nationwide assault on ignorance and homophobia. Linda and Peter, get ready, your worst nightmare — equality — is about to become reality. And head for cover because homophobia is under attack.

  1. Linda Harvey says:

Please remove my photo, and the portion about being “brutally silenced.” It just shows what kind of person you are. I’ll be contacting the FBI. Such “tolerance” is amazing…

  2. TheRadicalRealist says:

Yeah, Mike Tidmus! Don’t you know that Freedom of Speech only applies when it favors the christian cult???

The lard jesus did not sadomasochistically hang himself on a stick for the freedom of non-christian people!!! He died so that christian cultists could live their lives in ignorant bliss forever!!! DUH!!!

  3. Mike Tidmus says:

You’ll be contacting the FBI to what? Have them eliminate my First Amendment rights?

Ms Harvey, meet Title 17, The Fair Use Doctrine. Perhaps your buddy Peter LaBarbera and his legal goons from the American Family Association can explain it to you.

§ 107. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include —

    • the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
    • the nature of the copyrighted work;
    • the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
    • the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.

Through your relentless campaign of hate against the queer community, you have made yourself a public figure — a nasty, despicable, deceitful one at that, and as such you have opened yourself up to criticism, parody and satire.

The image above is clearly identified as a “cover parody” and “satire.” It is part of a larger, ongoing body of similar parodies and satirical images. It has no commercial value and is, at 72dpi, not suitable for reproduction for profit. Use of your photograph in no way impedes or infringes upon your ability to sell or market the photograph.

Only a person with extremely low-reading comprehension or severe psychological problems would interpret the text “Homophobia is under attack … brutally silenced” as a threat. The language is a parody of your paranoid, delusional ravings against the queer community.

Don’t like the sound of that criticism, stop writing like a homo-sex-obsessesed bigot.

You screech about censorship, and yet you show up here to silence legitimate criticism of your words and actions. There’s a word for that: hypocrisy.

I’d prefer to imagine that you’ll be contacting the FBI to surrender yourself for your complicity in encouraging bullying and hostility among school children and violence against queer people; for your complicity in the suicide deaths of queer teenagers who’ve been fed the lies you shroud in your hateful interpretation of Christianity; and for your complicity in spreading false information about and feeding the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS, thereby encouraging people at risk not to get tested for HIV and creating a hostile climate of fear of and loathing toward people living with AIDS/HIV.

As for “tolerance,” liars, extremists and haters are not entitled to tolerance. So pack up your empty, censorious threats, hop back on your styrofoam cross or the broomstick you rode in on, and take your malice back from whence it came before someone drops a house on you.

  4. Peter says:

Hey, Linda — just a quick question: Do you hate lesbians too? If so, why?

  5. Peter says:

Oh, and I love this bit from Mrs. Harvey’s website:

Within the bounds of kindness and civility, students, teachers and parents who find the behavior personally repugnant should continue to have the right to express this opinion. This is not meant to imply support for derogatory labels or insults.

If “repugnant” (not to mention “abhorrent,” “lawless,” “a blight on people’s lives” that “needs to be outlawed,” etc.) isn’t a “derogatory label,” then I’m Anita Bryant.

Mrs. Harvey, if you’re reading this, and I suspect you are: If you want to live in a country where your narrow-minded attitude about homosexuality is fully embraced, I recommend Latvia, Uganda, Saudi Arabia or Iran.

  6. Sarah says:

I think Linda has a right to her opinion and it seems a little crazy you would threaten her with death and then say she’s the one who is hate-filled.

Most of America agrees with her…and certainly the medical stats show that this lifestyle isn’t the greatest/safest/most healthy mentally…try to separate yourself emotionally for a minute and ask, if this isn’t a choice, why do so many people who claim to be gay randomly decide to switch teams back and forth? Maybe because it’s something that they are choosing to pursue- like any other fetish.

  7. Mike Tidmus says:

Nobody threatened Ms Harvey. Can you not read?

“Homophobia is under attack” followed by a Harveyesque paranoid paragraph is a parody of her overly melodramatic writing.

Ever hear of the Kinsey Scale? Sexuality is measured from ZERO (100% heterosexual) to SIX (100% homosexual). The folks in the middle bat for either team.

The so-called “ex-gays” if you read any of their bios are total fuck-ups with histories of drug and alcohol abuse, sexual-compulsiveness, mental illness, and insert any fucked-up anti-social behavior here.

Then they experienced some “come to Jesus” moment, and, like magic, they’ve got a brand new crutch.

I can name far more ex-Christians than you can ex-gays.
