Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his conservative minority government are about to have their posteriors handed to them by a coalition of the Liberal and New Democratic parties, with support from the Bloc Québécois.Â
Dan Savage reminds readers who/what Stephen Harper is:
From Dan Savage:
Stephen Harper is a tool and a fool, and has never enjoyed majority support up there. Which is great. And, yes, while Harper wasn’t able to do as much damage to Canada—which still has gay marriage and a budget surplus and great ski resorts—as George W. Bush did to the United States, it wasn’t for lack of desire. I said Harper was a George Bush wannabe, not a George Bushactuallywas. Regardless, it’ll be good to see him fall. And here’s hoping that the New Dems and the Liberals unite, a la the Canadian Alliance and the Progressive Conservatives, and beat the crap out of Conservatives when your next election gets called.
And thanks for holding down the fort(s) in Afghanistan, Canada. But maybe you wouldn’t be having to do most of the work over there if your PM was less interested in eating the PUSA’s ass and more interested in sticking up for Canada’s interests.
The anti-conservative sentiment stems from, among other things, the Conservative Party’s lack of response to the global economic crisis. The Harper government will face a confidence vote, and should they lose, the liberal coalition will take over. The liberal coalition hold 163 seats outnumbering the conservative’s 143 seats.
Conservatives have vowed to use every legal means to defeat the liberal coalition, including suspending Parliament. They’ve taken to the airways with ads labeling the liberal efforts “un-Canadian,” “radical,” and a “coup d’etat.”
As Canadian Green Party Leader Elizabeth May said. “Mr. Harper may run, but he cannot hide. He has lost the confidence of the House.”
