Crawl attendees are encouraged to come early and enjoy the pre-prey parking lot festivities at San Diego’s beautiful Qualcomm Stadium. Refreshments will not be served, but have they got a show for you!!!

And remember, kids, it’s a festering, not a festival!

Hey! Who’s that guy in the picture? Why, that’s Pastor Jim Garlow of the evangelical Skyline Church in San Diego, and one of Proposition 8’s biggest cheerleaders. Pastor Garlow has suggested that marriage equality is a threat worse than radical Islam. He has described the Christianist jihad to pass Prop 8, and eliminate same-sex marriage, as an “epic battle for the sanctity of marriage.” This holy war apparently means so much to Pastor Garlow that he’s willing to encourage pro-8 supporters to circumvent campaign laws regarding donations. It worried even his fellow Warriors-for-Christ when, according to People for the American Way, Garlow suggested that a family could avoid disclosure by having a father and his wife and his kids Tommy and Suzie each give $99.

Alternet recently assessed Garlow’s involvement with Proposition 8 and tomorrow’s prey-away-the-gay-rights-a-thon at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego thusly:

“This is not political to us. We see it as very spiritual,” Jim Garlow, pastor of the evangelical Skyline Church in San Diego County, told AP. Garlow is part of a nationwide 40 days of prayer, fasting and intensive mobilization of “God’s Army,” leading up to a Nov. 1 rally in San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium of 10,000 “young pioneers” supporting passage of Prop. 8. A video on TheCall’s Web site promoting the Qualcomm rally calls the Prop. 8 battle a war between Darkness versus Light.

Young Pioneers?God’s Army?War between Darkness and Light?

To help clarify, here are a handful of Garlow’s divinely-inspired thoughts on marriage equality:

(On learning of the California Supreme Court’s decision in favor of marriage equality) “I felt like I was watching the destruction of Western civilization.”

From: Americans United for Separation of Church and State

“Satan is obsessed in destroying marriage, the coming together, fitting together of the two complimentary halves of humanity – male and female, since they are on earth, a mirror, an image, of what is to be fulfilled at the end of this age. And that is why we are in the battle we are in. It is not ultimately about earthly marriage, about our religious freedoms, our churches, or even about the practice of homosexuality as such. It is about the desire of Satan to decimate the picture of God’s ultimate design for the Cosmos – the Grand Wedding of His Son to the Prepared Bride.”

From: Fundamentally Flawed

“For the sake of freedom, Proposition 8 must pass. Failure to stop this in California means it will eventually come to your state.”

From: The Alliance Defense Fund, the cosa-nostra of Christianist lawyers

“We’re not in a war. We’re in the war. You were born for such a time as this.”

From: People for the American Way

“We have Jesus and truth on our side, and we also have people.”

From: People for the American Way

“Secondly, in countries where same sex marriage is legal, religious freedoms are lost, because it becomes illegal to speak out against the homosexual behavior and in favor of ‘one man/one woman’ marriage. … No single social issue has threatened to forever muzzle Bible believing Christians like this contest.”

From: Earned Media, A Christianist news service

“When same-sex marriage is legal, they [gay marriage supporters] become indescribably intolerant towards anybody who has a different view.”

From: The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life

”When same-sex relationships — especially marriage — acquire government sanction, anyone in opposition to it must be intimidated, silenced, fined, jailed or at least threatened.”

From: USA Today

“One of the dumbest things the devil ever did was attack the institution of marriage.”

From People for the American Way

“If you don’t care about this campaign, don’t want to get involved, you can go to jail and start a wonderful prison ministry, but if you want religious freedom, we’re going to have to win this thing.”

From: One News Now The American Family Association’s news site

“We are at one of those moments. This is THE major change point of the last few decades.  While the abortion issue is a foundational issue, the marriage definition issue is a survival issue. No single social issue has threatened to forever muzzle Bible believing Christians like this contest.

“If we lose on this one, the culture loses. One person has astutely observed that ’we cannot win the culture war merely on Prop 8, but we can lose it on Prop 8.’

“It is imperative that all pastors and Christian leaders view this for what it is: an irretrievable moment, with profound and lasting consequences. We must vigorously support Prop 8, as if our ministries and our lives depend on it.  Ultimately, they will.”

Warning! The Mormon Church plans to have its followers distribute disgusting gay propaganda with their candy tonight..telling kids that if prop 8 passes their MOM will become their DAD! Details here: http://ItsOkToVoteNo.com. Spread the word! There’s not much time.

  3. Hi Mike! Thanks for the link, and thanks for getting the truth out about Garlow and the rest of his cult. I’m secretly hoping that by Tuesday, they’re all too weak from fasting to vote.

You were right when you described Garlow as a “professional idiot.” And you have a very cheeky blog over there at Fundamentally Flawed. I’m happy to have stumbled across it while Googling for “Garlow” AND “anti-gay.”

  5. Peter says:

When it comes to same-sex marriage, Garlow’s views are indistinguishable from those of the Muslims he claims to despise.

Isn’t it ironic? Don’t you think?

  6. Mike Tidmus says:

Garlow’s nothin’ compared to the ûber-zealot behind TheCall, Lou Engle. Lou thinks his zombie prayer army put the greatest President in American history, George W Bush, into office.

Lou’s lackeys are locked up 24/7 starving themselves, preying and imagining the Lard is speaking directly to them. He’ll be parading them and recruiting others at Qualcomm.

When I minced my words and said Garlow “suggested” the comparison to radical Islam, it was because Garlow was enthusiastically reading aloud a statement from Engle who actually made the comparison.

Engle would be the bin Laden, but Garlow would the high-ranking al Queda number two the Busheviks keep saying they’ve eliminated.
