The latest issue of Slime magazine features a cover story on the planned invasion of San Diego by thousands of anti-gay Christianists who are Hellbent on eliminating marriage equality in California.
This prey-away-the-gay-rights-a-thon at Qualcomm Stadium was organized by a cabal of the nastiest of the nasties behind Proposition 8 — the most heinous ballot initiative since the 1978 Briggs Initiative, which, had it passed, would have banned gays and lesbians from working in California’s public schools. The event’s organizers claim they’re expecting 40,000 people, most of whom have been fasting and preying in the hope they’ll be able to permanently cement their hatred in the California Constitution.
San Diego isn’t about to simply endure this invasion of bigotry; we’re pushing back. So don’t lock up your pets and head for the fallout shelter just yet, because the forces of fair play and decency, of every color, creed and sexual orientation, are making a stand for freedom, fairness and equal rights for all.
On Saturday evening, November first, people from across San Diego County and the State of California will be assembling for a candlelight rally to raise our voices and tell the radical religious right, and their out-of-state financiers, that as much as they prey, they’re not taking anyone’s rights away.
Details:
Who: Anybody who believes in justice and equality.
When: 1 November 2008, 9:00 pm
Where: University Avenue in Hillcrest (Google Map)
What: A candlelight rally against Proposition 8. Come meet the Mayor of San Diego and his daughter. They’ll be passing out candles at the GLBT Center at 3909 Centre Street (at University). No on Prop 8 signs will be provided.
This is a grassroots effort, and your help is needed to spread the word. Get on the phone and start writing emails. If you can’t make it to the rally, be sure to get to the polls on Election Day, with your friends and family in tow, and VOTE NO on PROP 8.
