Foo on that!

The Foo Fighters have challenged the McCain campaign over its use of their song My Hero. The rock band claims the song was “appropriated without their knowledge.” In a statement the group said, “It’s frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property.

“The saddest thing about this is that ‘My Hero’ was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song.”

The Foo Fighters are one of a growing number of recording artists, including Heart, Van Halen, John Mellencamp and Jackson Browne, to insist the Republicans stop using their copyrighted material.

A spokesperson for the Republicans maintains the party has bought and paid for the use of millions of songs, and they have a right to use them.

Last August, singer-songwriter Jackson Browne filed a lawsuit seeking $75,000.00 in damages for the Republican’s use of his song Running on Empty. The Republicans described the suit as a “big to-do about nothing.”

Given the mud-slinging and name-calling of the past week, Running on Empty seems an apt description of the McCain-Palin campaign.
