The Grand Ayatollah relaxes at home.
(A fatwa on me! Satire from the Tidmus archives)
You might remember the Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, spiritual leader of all Shia Muslims in Iraq and around the world. A few years back, when asked, “What is the judgment for sodomy and lesbianism,” Sistani angrily replied, “Forbidden. Punished, in fact, killed. The people involved should be killed in the worst, most severe way of killing.”
Although his fatwa against gays and lesbians was eventually removed from his website, it was never rescinded. The campaign of murderous violence against gay people in Iraq continues today, unacknowledged by the US government.
Fast forward to the present and we learn the Grand Ayatollah’s own website has been hacked (apparently in the worst, most severe way) by a group identifying itself as Group XP — probably no affiliation with Windows XP or Office XP. His site content was replaced with a video segment of American comedian Bill Mahar, ironically, commenting on Sistani’s site. Crooks and Liars has the video.
A game of chess anyone?
